Common Table

Please consider offering a bit of your time to volunteer with this vital church ministry, which has entered a new and exciting phase of its life.

Our volunteers typically arrive between 4:30 and 4:45 and assist with set up, meal distribution, and break down. We are committed to keeping this operation streamlined so that you can get to the fellowship hall in time for community announcements.

If you would like to volunteer with us and have ideas for how we can expand what we offer our guests.

February 4

Civil Rights Movement in Birmingham

Church members Carrie Atcheson and Ronald Williams will facilitate a discussion about the Civil Rights Movement in Birmingham, both as it relates to the history of BCOC and intersects with Ronald’s personal and family history.

Collaboration with the Kairos Center

Associate Pastor of Community Engagement Eric Clark and Ministry Committee member Kim Looney will share about their recent collaboration with Rev. Carolyn Foster the Kairos Center for Religions, Rights, and Social Justice. For those who might not be familiar with the Kairos Center, it is most well-known as one of the two anchor organizations for the national Poor People’s Campaign, the other being Dr. William Barber’s organization Repairers of the Breach. Eric, Kim, and Rev. Foster are collaborating with Kairos on its “A Matter of Survival” (AMOS) project and are working alongside other regional teams across the nation to host a season of “Survival Revivals” this summer, which are intended to facilitate a critical mass of what Kairos is calling “survival organizing” for the social and political challenges that loom on our national horizon.

Ash Wednesday: Love That Knows Us by Name

On Ash Wednesday we begin our Lenten journey by listening to the voice of the Good Shepherd, the one who knows us by name and calls us into life. As we receive ashes, we are reminded of our humanity, yet we are also reminded that we are deeply loved and held by God.
